Ceremonial Pacha

Ceremonial Pacha is an artistic research project dedicated to the preservation and reinterpretation of pre-Columbian ceremonial ceramic instruments and their ancestral acoustic knowledge. Founded by Ecuadorian artist Pepe Adrián, the project explores the intersection of sound, ritual, sculpture, and cultural memory through contemporary ceramic practice.

Born in Ecuador in 1988, Adrián has devoted his artistic path to the continuous exploration of visual and auditory forms of expression. His interest in ancestral sound traditions led him to the study of ethnomusicology — the exploration of music within its social and cultural contexts — through which he began researching the construction, acoustic systems, and ceremonial significance of ancient sound-producing ceramic instruments.

This investigation became the foundation of Ceremonial Pacha, where traditional knowledge is reimagined through contemporary experimentation. Through the ongoing development of new ceramic whistle vessels and hydraulic sound systems, Adrián expands the possibilities of how these ancient instruments can be experienced and understood today.

The project also examines the relationship between sound, resonance, and human perception. Used in immersive sound ceremonies and meditative environments such as sound bath sessions, these instruments create deeply sensory experiences that invite reflection, contemplation, and connection. Through these encounters, Ceremonial Pacha proposes new perspectives on the possible ceremonial and spiritual roles these mysterious instruments may have held within ancient civilizations.
